Festivals in Andhra Pradesh
Visakha Utsav
Its the Festival special for Vizagites. 'Visakha Utsav' is
organised by A.P. Tourism. It is organised every year in January
from the third Friday to Sunday . This years Visakha Utsav is
being conducted in parallel with Aruku Utsav, Bheemili Utsav and
World Telugu Federation Conference. The festival comprises of a
variety of cultural programmes, sports events, food fair and
exhibitions, fashion shows, trekking etc. It is celebrated in
the cold month of December. Visakha Utsav is the year 2000
festival means "Millennium Utsav".
Deccan Festival
"Deccan Festival" is celebrated in Hyderabad every year
in February on 25th . It is celebrated by AP tourism. Cultural
programmes with ghazal nights, qawalis and mushairas are
organised. The Deccan festival highlights Hyderabad's arts,
crafts, culture and cusine. "Pearls & Bangles" Fair and food
fair with items covering both Andhra
and Hyderabad.
Rayalaseema Food & Dance
Festival
Rayalaseema Food & Dance festival is organised in October to
highlight the arts and cuisine of Rasyalaseema area of Tirupati, Chitoor
District by A.P.Tourism at Tirupati.
Lumbini Festival
Lumbini festival is organized in December from second Friday to
Sunday every year. It is mainly celebrated in Hyderabad and Nagarjunasagar
to highlight and celebrate the 'Buddhist Heritage' of Andhra
Pradesh.
Ganesha Chaturthi
Ganesha Chaturthi is a main festival and is celebrated in
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Ganesha,
the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati is widely
worshipped as the munificent god of wisdom. On the day of the
Chaturthi, i.e. the last of the days dedicated to the
elephant-headed god. This immersion is accompanied by drum
beats, devotional songs and dancing.
